Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

BEEBE, Kenneth Ahl
Kenneth Ahl Beebe, 81, a lifelong resident of Manchester, husband of 57 years to the late Alice O. (Karlsen) Beebe, passed away Wednesday (April 7, 1999) after a lengthy illness. Kenneth was born July 26, 1917 in Manchester, son of the late Harold C. and Tryphena Beebe and had attended the Manchester School System and graduated from the South Manchester High School. Mr. Beebe saw active duty in the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in the D-Day Invasion. Prior to his retirementin 1980 he had been employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for over 40 years. He was a lifelong member of North United Methodist Church in Manchester and a member of the Aircraft Club of East Hartford.
