Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Obituary for Donald S. Thompson

Donald Sheaffer Thompson was called home to live with the angels on June 11, 2014. He was 81 years old. He is survived by CeCe, his loving and devoted wife of 51 years. He is also survived by his son, Dominick Thompson and wife Dawn and two daughters Mary Huffine and husband Tom and Dona Archer and husband Jeff along with 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Other survivor is his brother Ralph Thompson.
Don was born in Agawam, Massachusetts on November 5, 1932. He was a member of the United States Army and served in Germany. He received three medals during his time in the army. He moved to Sebastian, FL in 1957. He met and married his wife in February 1963. He loved the outdoors. He loved the location of CeCe and his last home on the beach in Vero Beach at the Village Spires. He said he felt like he was on a cruise every day.
His greatest accomplishments were his total devotion as a husband, dad and grandfather. He was a blessing for all who ...Read full story
