1944 - D-Day, which occurred on June 6, 1944, was a pivotal World War II operation where Allied forces launched a massive invasion on the beaches of Normandy, France. 1945 - The atomic bomb is invented (J. Robert Oppenheimer, et al., United States)

The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. 1962 - The Cuban Missile Crisis was a tense 13-day standoff in October 1962 between the United States and the Soviet Union over the installation of Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, just 90 miles from the U.S. coast. LEICESTER - Alice E. (Barnes) Jubinville, 71, of 1671 Main St. died yesterday in Fairlawn Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.

Mrs. Jubinville was a sales clerk at the former W. T. Grant Co. in Worcester for 13 years, retiring several years ago.

She graduated from Oxford High School.

Mrs. Jubinville was a member of St Piux X Church and its Women's Guild, the Leicester Senior Citizens and the United Commercial Travelers Auxilliary.

She leaves her husband, Joseph A. Jubinville; two sons, Richard E. and Kevin F. Jubinville, both of Leicester; a daughter, Carol A., wife of Eugene J. Vassar of Jefferson; two
Brother: s, Robert Barnes of Worcester and John Jaskoviak of Northampton; four
Sister: s, Dorothy Patrazza of Worcester, Frances Magnan, Mary, wife of James Nickolson, and Ella McCullough, all of Oxford; seven grand-children and several nephews and nieces.
