Southbridge Couple Feted
SOUTHBRIDGE, Maonday - Mr. and Mrs. John B. Lippe of 214 Marcy street were honored yesterday by their six children, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends at a dinner at Hamilton Rod and Gun Club in Sturbridge, marking their 56th wedding anniversary.
They were presented numerous gifts including a special corsage of red roses to Mrs. Lippe.
Both are 76 and enjoy excellent health. Mr. Lippe works daily at the Marcy street plant of the American Optical Company. Their four sons are Hermas, veteran member of the Board of Public Welfare; Renaldo, Arcade and Romeo Lippe. The two daughters are, Mrs. Yvonne, wife of Romeo LeBoeuf and Mrs. Antoinetts, wife of Frank O. Delage.
The grandchildren are Mrs. Carmen Cipari, Vivian, Lucille, Gerald, Frances and ALfred Lippe, Norman and Robert Delabe and Hermas, Rober and Rejane LeBoueuf.
The great grandchildren, David, Albert and Larry LeBoeuf.

Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' John B. Lippe Succumbs at Southbridge

SOUTHBRIDGE, Monda - John B. Lippe, 79, of 214 Marcy street, died early yesterday afternoon at Harrington Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

Mr. Lippe was the town's first drum major and appeared with the old Southbridge Brass Band in many parts of the state. He was also one of the town's first call firemen, being attached to the Elm Street Station 25 years.

He worked at the American Optical Co., Russell-Harrington Cutlery Co., and the Marcy street plant of the American Optical Co., retiring for the latter plant about four years ago.

Organizations
He was a charter member of the American Optical Co. Quarter Century Club, and Hamilton Rod & Gun Club.

Mr. and Mrs. Lippe celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, June 12, 1943.

Mr. Lippe was born in Lanoraie, P.Q., son of Gilbert and Adelaine (Page) Lippe. He came to Southbridge when very young and was one of the oldest members of Notre Dame parish.
