1944 - D-Day, which occurred on June 6, 1944, was a pivotal World War II operation where Allied forces launched a massive invasion on the beaches of Normandy, France. Known as Operation Overlord, it involved over 156,000 troops from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and other Allied nations. The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. APRIL 14 - R. Douglas Brulett, 81, of Farmvllle, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents, A. B. and Edith Bader Brouilette, a brother, Bader Brouilette and a sister, Eileen Mitchell. He is survived by his children, Carolyn McKeithen of Florida and Bradford Brulett of North Carolina; grandchildren, Wendy Hawkins, Aaron Hawkins, Carl Brulett and Crystal Brulett; nieces, Nancy Gasink of Maine and Donna Craig of Massachusetts and a nephew, Alan Brouilette of Illinois. Mr. Brulett attended college in Massachusetts, earning his BS degree and later received a MA from a college in Florida. He also served in the army from 1943-1946. A visitation will be held this evening (Thursday) from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Shorter Funeral Home, Farmvllle. interment will be in Easthampton, Massachusetts.
