Daniel Moulton, Captain, born in Hampton, N. H., 1731. His father died when he was four years old, and he was apprenticed to a man who treated him harshly. About 1745, at the age of fourteen, he ran away and went to the new settlements in Maine, first to Saco, and then to Scarborough, where he settled on the east side of Nonsuch river, near 'Rocky Hill,' opposite what is now known as the Daniel Carter place. He was a blacksmith, and became the owner of large tracts of land, holding most of what is now Scarborough Corner School District, and, it is said, about two miles of Nonsuch meadows. He had a large square house and several large barns. He gave each of his children a farm with large square house. In later years he paid a considerable sum in settlement for 'his time' to the man to whom he had been apprenticed.
