Biography
GIROUX - from the Germanic name 'Gerwulf', which comes from 'gari' which means 'spear' and from wulf' which means 'wolf'. Toussaint Giroux was baptized on November 2, 1633 in Réveillon, Orne, Normandy. Son of Jean Giroux and Marguerite Quilleron, he married Marie Godard, of unknown parentage, on September 29, 1654 in Quebec. The couple have 12 children. Arriving around 1650, this canvas weaver lives in Beauport. In 1681, he owns 3 guns, 12 cattle, a 'mare' and 53 acres of land. On October 29, 1686 in Beauport, widower, he married a widow, Thérèse Leblanc, daughter of Léonard and Marie Riton. The couple have a daughter. In 1691, the pioneer separated from his wife with whom he did not get along. He died on February 15, 1715 and was buried the next day in Beauport.
