George Gershwin was a total legend in the world of American music. Born on September 26, 1898, in Brooklyn, New York, he grew up in a Russian-Jewish immigrant family. The Gershwin kids, George and his brother Ira, both had a knack for music from an early age.

George started playing the piano when he was just around 10 years old, and his talent quickly became apparent. He dropped out of high school at 15 to pursue music full time, working for a music publisher, plugging songs and cranking out tunes for the legendary Tin Pan Alley.

In the 1920s, Gershwin exploded onto the scene with his groundbreaking fusion of classical music and jazz. His 'Rhapsody in Blue' was a game-changer, blending these two genres in a way that hadn't been done before. He was all about breaking down barriers and defying musical conventions.
