According to family members, Francesca had a total of 14 children, but only three are known. When she came to America she left Naples, Italy with her daughter Arzilla De Grandis both from Pentima, Italy. Her husband Pietro was deceased. They arrived in Boston on March 20, 1920, but Arzilla had a growth on the back of her neck and had to be sent home to Italy where she stayed with her grandmother, Rachele Navaroli. They were going to stay with her son Oreste De Grandis living in Pennsylvania. Arzilla returned to America a year later only to find her mother moved to Chicago with her new husband. Instead of living with her mother and stepfather, Arzilla lived with her sister, Gilda and her husband.
