My great grandfather came to this country from Sweden in 1888 landed in Portland CT. He had lost a child in Sweden, his wife was pregnant when they journeyed to the USA. My grandmother was born in Portland shortly after they arrived! Karl worked at the Collins Company for 31 years. He built their house on River Road in the early days of working at Collins company. He dug the foundation by hand, I grew up in this house loved it!
