The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Gene Raymond Rollison August 21, 2004

Gene R Rollison, 72 of South Canaan, died Saturday at Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart. His wife is the former Gienna Swingle.
A lifelong resident of South Canaan, son of the late John and Tillie Beardsley Rollison, he was engaged in farming.
He loved his children and his grandchildren and liked to go raccoon hunting.
Also surviving are a son, Dale, South Canaan; four daughters; Debra Moroom and Brenda Lanza, both of Lake Ariel; Bonnie Smith, Mayfield and Kim Rollison, Maryland, a brother, John Rollison, Waymart. and a sister Elsie Burdick, Florida, nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Randall Rollison.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in East Canaan Cemetery, by the Rev William Rushik, pastor, South Canaan Free Methodist Church.
