"Born about 1630, the son of Jean Fafard and of Antoinette Leverdier, from the town of Hotot-en-Auge, diocese of Evreux in Normandy, Francois took a wife at Trois-Rivieres on 5 November 1656. The bride was Marie Richard, originally from La Rochelle in Aunis, daughter of Simeon and Catherine Constancineau. After having lived a few years at Trois-Rivieres, then at Cap-de-la-Madeleine, this couple finally settled at Batiscan, where they were counted among the first inhabitants."

A brilliant citizen from Batiscan, the widower of Marie Richard since 31 May 1695, the father of seven children, a Normand by origin, Francois Fafard, 60 years old, entered the heart of the widow Thibault... In early spring, on 8 April 1696, Madeleine and Francois were married a second time, at Chateau-Richer... The new Lefrancois-Fafard couple moved to Batiscan..."

Biography

'Marie Richard was born in 1632 in La Rochelle, France the daughter of Simon Richard and Catherine Constancineau. She arrived in the Quebec Colony as a Filles A Marier, contracted to Francois Fafard. He was born on August 01, 1630 in Hotot Auge, Lisieux, Normandy, France the son of Jean Fafard and Antoinette Leverdier and stepbrother of Francoise Fafard.'

'The wedding took place on November 05, 1656 at Trois-Rivieres and the couple would have seven children before Marie's death on May 31, 1695 at Batiscan. Francois, who was the King's Representative in Detroit, would marry twice more: the first to Marie-Madeleine Francois and then to Jeanne Guillet. He died on December 25, 1711 at Trois Rivieres.'

'At the age of 63, Marie Richard gave up her life. She was buried at Batiscan on 31 March 1695. The following year, Francois went to Chateau-Richer to find another spouse. On 8 April 1696, he married Madeleine Lefrancois, daughter of Isaac and Esther Paigue, originally from Metz in Lorraine... Francois had his will drawn up by notary Trotain on 30 May 1707. It appears, according to accounts paid to a surgeon, that he was ill at this time. However, he lived for another four years, being laid to rest on 26 December 1711...'
