1901 - William McKinley, the 25th president of the United States, was shot on the grounds of the Pan-American Exposition in the Temple of Music in Buffalo, New York, on September 6, 1901, six months into his second term. Obituary
Mrs Harriet Peables McCann, wife of ex-County Attorney George E McCann, died at her home on Court street, Auburn, Wednesday of inflammation of the bowels after an illness of a few days. Mrs McCann was the daughter of Mr and Mrs J W Peables of Auburn, and was born there 35 years ago. She was educated at the Edward Little High School and after graduation taught for several years until her marriage to Mr McCann, in December 1889. She was an attendant at the Court Street Free Baptist Church all her life. In the social life of Auburn she took a prominent part. She was a member of the Auburn Friday Club and devoted considerable time to literary work. Her husband, a five-year-old daughter, her parents, and a sister, Miss Carrie Peables survive her.
