'I am the luckiest man in the world', Francis Walter 'Frank' Dupre would often exclaim. You might not even have to ask before he'd start telling you about his wonderful wife, his beautiful daughters, his incredible grandchildren and his amazing great-grandchildren. And, if he ever did, you would know how truly blessed he felt.

Born in the mill town of Webster, Massachusetts in 1932, he boasted that the nuns at his catholic school loved him, often rapping his knuckles with a ruler or sending him to the principal's office. He bragged that he had graduated 31st in his class, before pausing with his trademark grin to add 'there were 32 in my class…'. At age 18, after graduating high school, he enlisted in the Navy – '120 pounds of rompin' stompin' hell!', as he would say with a smile. He served for four years, during which time he earned a spot on the flight deck of an anti-submarine carrier, was awarded Good Conduct and National Defense medals, and was...Read full story
