Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Daniel C. Beebe, 60, husband of Mary (Blake) Beebe, of 21 Lawrence St., Rockville, died Monday (Dec. 12) at home. Born in Manchester, son of the late Harold and Tryphena (Ahl) Beebe, he was a World War II Army veteran and was formerly employed as a supervisor for Pratt & Whitney Division of United Technologies. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, David Beebe and Daniel Beebe, both of Rockville; two daughters, Margaret Beebe of East Hartford and Carol Beebe of Rockville; two
Brother: s, Kenneth Beebe and George Beebe, both of Manchester; four
Sister: s, Bernice Hagenow and Mildred Cowles, both of Manchester, Ruth Donnelly of Enfield and Marilyn Keyes of Marion; and three grandchildren. Funeral service will be Thursday, 9 a.m., from the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville, with a mass of Christian burial, 10 a.m., in St. Bernard's Church.
