Francois  married  Marie-Jeanne LANIEL dite LAVIOLETTE 14 November 1786 in Québec, Province of Québec, Canada .  Marie-Jeanne LANIEL dite LAVIOLETTE  was born 18 October 1765 in Berthierville, Québec, Canada (Berthier-en-Haut) (Ste-Genevieve-de-Berthier).  Marie-Jeanne died 4 June 1790 in L'Acadie, Québec, Canada (Sainte-Marguerite-de-Blairfindie).  Marie-Jeanne was the child of Bonaventure LANIEL (LAIGNEL) and Marie BIRON.

Francois  married  (2) Marie-Charlotte LAROCQUE dite LAFONTAINE 11 November 1816 in Marieville, Rouville, Lower Canada .  Marie-Charlotte LAROCQUE dite LAFONTAINE  was born 22 August 1767 in Chambly, Québec, Canada (Saint-Joseph-de-Chambly).  Marie-Charlotte died 25 August 1832 in Marieville, Rouville, Québec, Canada (Sainte-Marie-de-Monnoir).  Marie-Charlotte was the child of Joseph-Antoine LAROCQUE dit LAFONTAINE and Charlotte BARRIERE.

Francois  married  (3) Marguerite MAILLOT 24 September 1833 in Marieville, Rouville, Lower Canada .  Marguerite MAILLOT  was born 29 August 1772 in Beloeil, Québec, Canada (Saint-Mathieu-de-Beloeil).  Marguerite died 26 February 1836 in Marieville, Rouville, Québec, Canada (Sainte-Marie-de-Monnoir).  Marguerite was the child of Pierre-Augustin MAILLOT and Marguerite BOMBARDIER.

Francois  married  (4) Marie MARCIL 18 April 1837 in Marieville, Rouville, Lower Canada .  Marie MARCIL  was born abt. 1784 in Québec Province, Canada (Quebec).  Marie died 24 December 1860 in Marieville, Rouville, Québec, Canada (Sainte-Marie-de-Monnoir).  Marie was the child of Pierre MARCIL dit LESPAGNOL and Josephe TESSIER.

Did You Know? Québec Généalogie - What is a 'dit/dite' name?  When the first settlers came to Québec from France it was a custom to add a 'dit' nickname to the surname. The English translation of 'dit' is 'said'. The Colonists of Nouvelle France added 'dit' names as distinguishers. A settler might have wanted to differentiate their family from their siblings by taking a 'dit' name that described the locale to which they had relocated. The acquiring of a 'dit' name might also be the result of a casual adoption, whereby the person wanted to honor the family who had raised them. Another reason was also to distinguish themselves by taking as a 'dit' name the town or village in France from which they originated. This custom ended around 1900 when people began using only one name, either the 'dit' nickname or their original surname.
