Thursday morning, May 18, 1880, about two o'clock, fire broke out in a house owned and occupied by August Thomas, situated on the road above Peck's Upper Mill. The house and contents were completely destroyed, the family barely escaping with their lives. Of the property lost was $150 in money that Mr. Thomas had made in the ice business this winter. A lounge and a barrel of pork were the only articles that escaped being burned. The loss will reach $2,500 with an insurance of $1,000 in the Berkshire Mutual Company of this town.
