According to PRDH, a marriage contract was signed between Michel Gamelin Fontaine and Marguerite Crevier at an undetermined place in Quebec, Canada in 1661.

"Marguerite (1645-1708), married in 1657 to Jacques Fournier de la Ville remarried in 1661 to the surgeon Michel Gamelin dit Lafontaine. She married a third time, in 1683, to Francois Renou de la Chapelle then a fourth time, in 1692 to Robert Groston de Saint-Ange. She had children until the age of fifty-seven."

NOTE: I think the 4th marriage mentioned above is an error. I am pretty sure that the Marguerite Crevier who married Robert Groston was the daughter of Nicolas (Sieur de Bellerive) Crevier and Louise Lecoutre.

Gamelain lived at Trois-Rivières and later at Cap-de-la-Madeleine, where he received a grant of land in 1662. He must have practised his profession there, since we find him involved in a court case with Louis Pinard, another surgeon practising in those parts, who feared competition from Gamelain. Thus, when Louis Pinard complained of the slenderness of his earnings as surgeon to the garrison at Trois-Rivières, the Conseil Souverain replied to him that, if he was not satisfied, he would be replaced by Michel Gamelain. The latter preferred to devote himself to the fur trade. In order to do so, he made use of his pharmaceutical...Read MORE...
