LEFEBVRE, CAMILLE, instituteur, père de Sainte-Croix, vicaire général et administrateur scolaire, né le 14 février 1831 à Saint-Philippe-de-Laprairie, Bas-Canada, unique enfant de Louis Lefebvre, ouvrier, et de sa troisième femme, Véronique Bouthillier, veuve de Jean-Baptiste Moquin ; décédé le 28 janvier 1895 à Memramcook, Nouveau-Brunswick.

Lorsque Camille Lefebvre naquit, son père avait environ 63 ans et sa mère approchait de ses 45 ans. Il était le treizième enfant de son père, et sa mère en avait eu deux d’un mariage précédent. Il allait perdre ses parents au début de sa vie d’adulte : son père en 1846 et sa mère huit ans plus tard.

Son enfance et son adolescence préparèrent Lefebvre à se sentir solidaire de ceux pour qui il allait se dévouer plus tard : les Acadiens du Nouveau-Brunswick. Sa famille savait ce qu’était la pénurie mais ne vécut jamais dans la pauvreté.
