Jean-François Flan of Paris, France, married Marie, daughter of Michel Dupuis and Marie Gautrot, at Port-Royal in January 1706. Jean-François had been serving as clerk--commis des fortifications--at Port-Royal for several years before his marriage and for a time oversaw the rebuilding of the town's defenses. After the British gained control of Port-Royal and renamed it Annapolis Royal, the former commis moved on to Minas. Marie gave Jean-François five children, only one of them a son, who probably did not marry.
