DUFOUR - nickname given to a baker, the tenant of the four banal (paying bread oven of the seigniory).
Pierre Dufour-Latour was born around 1698 in Arras, Pas-de-Calais in France. Son of Michel and Hélène Neveu, he married Geneviève Guignard, daughter of Pierre Guignard-Monbriant and Geneviève Vanier, on June 1, 1772 in Montreal. From this union were born 13 children. He arrived in the country as a soldier in the St-Ours company. he is mentioned in the register of the sick on November 1, 1719 at the Hôtel-Dieu-de-Québec. This pioneer, about whom we know little, lives in Montreal, then Batiscan and settles in Terrebonne. He died on April 10, 1763 and was buried the next day in Sault-au-Récollet, Montreal.
