Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.
Funeral
Funeral services for Hodge Falkenhagen, 43, former Beaumont resident who was killed Saturday night in Houston in a traffic accident, were held today in the Heights chapel in Houston. The body will be brought to Beaumont for burial in Magnolia cemetery today at 2:30 p.m. A geophysicist for the Independent Exploration company of Houston, Mr. Falkenhagen had worked in this area for several years. According to reports, he lost control of his car following a collision with a truck and it crashed into a bridge, throwing him from the vehicle against the railing. He suffered a fractured skull. He is survived by a daughter, Miss Susan Lucille Falkenhagen of California, and two sons, Hodge M. Falkenhagen Jr., of Houston, and Donald Ross Falkenhagen of California.
