Biography
PLANTE - from Old French 'plant' which designates a vine that has just been planted. Nickname given to a winegrower. Jean Plante was born around 1626 in St-Pierre de Laleu (now La Rochelle), Aunis (Charente-Maritime). Son of Nicolas Plante and Isabelle Chauvin, he married Françoise Boucher, daughter of Marin Boucher and Perrine Mallet, on September 1, 1650 in Château-Richer. From this union were born 13 children. He moved to Château-Richer on land given by his father-in-law. In 1681, he owned 2 cows and 10 acres of land. At the beginning of 1694, he and his wife donated their property to their son François on the condition that he take care of them. He died on March 29, 1706 in Château-Richer.
