Biography
GILBERT - from the Germanic name 'WILLBERTH', from 'will' which means 'will' and 'bert' which means 'brilliant, illustrious'.

Étienne Gilbert was born around 1653 in Notre-Dame, Poitiers, Vienne, France. Son of Henri Gilbert and Renée Maillet-Mayé, he married Marguerite Thibault, daughter of Michel Thibault and Jeanne Soyer, on March 1, 1683 in Neuville. From this union were born 13 children. Arrived in the country around 1675, he settled in Neuville and worked there as a long sawyer. He carried out several purchase and sale transactions and was called to appear several times in court, due to unpaid debts. He died on October 8, 1714 in St-Augustin.
