Biography
Charles Babbage was a 19th-century polymath, often regarded as the 'father of the computer' for his pioneering work in the development of mechanical computing machines. He was born on December 26, 1791, in London, England, into a family of means.

Babbage's early education was at home, and he later attended Cambridge University, where he showed a keen interest in mathematics. He was highly influenced by the mathematician John Herschel and became part of a circle of intellectuals known as the Analytical Society, which aimed to promote the use of Leibnizian calculus.

One of Babbage's significant contributions was his work on the 'Difference Engine,' a mechanical device designed to calculate mathematical tables. The idea was to eliminate the errors that often occurred when tables were computed by human calculators. Babbage received government funding to build the machine, and he began the project in the early 1820s.
