The War of 1812 was a conflict between the United States and Great Britain, lasting from 1812 to 1815. It was primarily fueled by issues such as trade restrictions due to Britain's ongoing war with France, impressment of American sailors into the British Navy, and British support of Native American tribes against American expansion. The war ended with the Treaty of Ghent, restoring pre-war boundaries but resolving few of the initial disputes.From the 1840s through the 1880s, thousands trekked westward, carrying only a few belonging and supplies for the journey, and settling on the western frontier, forever changing the American West.

William C. Redfield, Esq., an old resident of the City, and a gentleman widely known in scientific circles, died at his residence yesterday after a short illness. His disease was inflammation of the lungs. Mr. Redfield was the senior proprietor of the Swiftsure Transportation line, an occupation which brought him actively in contact with the business community, in which his standing was excellent. His age was about 68. It is chiefly through his investigations of meteorological phenomena that Mr. Redfield has made his mark in the walks of Science. His theories of the causes of storms has been the theme of great discussion, not only at public scientific gatherings in this country, but among savants abroad who have bestowed particular attention upon that branch of inquiry. Mr. Redfield was an active member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, of which body he was elected President immediately after organization under that title. The
