He was socially active in Waterville; he taught Sunday school, sang in a quartet, and soloist at the Advent Christian Church in Waterville of which he was also treasurer. He was treasurer of the associated Lakeside Campmeeting Association. He belonged the the Gideons, was chairman of the Citizen's Committee of the 1950s which studied the school system in Waterville and which led to the construction of Waterville Senior High School.
