Biography
GOSSELIN - derived from the Germanic name GOSSO/ GOZZO which evokes the divinity (god in English) and the Gothic people. Gabriel Gosselin was born around 1620 in Combray in Normandy. Son of Nicolas Gosselin and Marguerite Dubréal, he married Françoise Lelièvre, daughter of Christophe Lelièvre and Georgette Clément, in Sillery on August 18, 1653. From their union were born 9 children. Widowed, he married Louise Guillot (18 years old), daughter of Geoffroy Guillot and Marie d'Abancourt, in second marriage, on October 4, 1677 in Sainte-Famille de l'Île d'Orléans. From their union 2 children were born. He arrived in the country in 1651. He would become the richest landowner on Île d'Orléans. He died in July 1697 in Quebec.
