Sir Frederick William Borden (1847–1917) was a prominent Canadian politician and physician from Canning, Nova Scotia. He is best known for his contributions to both the medical and political fields.
In the medical field, Borden graduated from the Harvard Medical School in 1871 and went on to become a respected physician. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Canadian Army Medical Corps in 1904 and served as its first director general. He played a crucial role in improving medical services for the Canadian military, especially during times of conflict such as the Boer War and World War I.
In the political arena, Borden was a member of the Liberal Party and served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for several years. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking. The cell phone was invented by Martin Cooper of Motorola. On April 3, 1973, he made the first handheld mobile phone call with the Motorola DynaTAC. This device weighed 2.5 pounds and was 10 inches long, offering 30 minutes of talk time and requiring 10 hours to charge.
