The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Elizabeth M. 'Libby' Fehr, 72, of 27 S. 9th St., Easton, died Thursday in Easton Hospital. She was the wife of the late Ralph S. Fehr.

Born in Duryea, Luzerne County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Beatrice (Briermeyer) Longyhore.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Easton.

Survivors: Sons, Dana J. of Wind Gap and Barry W. of Easton; daughters, Frieda F., wife of Anthony Anzalone of Brigantine, N.J., Denise D., wife of Robert Renner, and Tina M., wife of Michael Larson, both of Easton, Tracy L., at home, and Suzanne, wife of Thomas Mertz of Wilson; brothers, George of Easton and Paul of Denton, Texas; sisters, Betty Smith of Belvidere, N.J., and Thelma, wife of George Larison of Palmer Township; fiancee, Paul Berger of Easton, and 10 grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton streets, Easton. Call 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.
