The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. THE MORNING CALL

Ralph S. Fehr, 67, of 27 S. 9th St., Easton, died Tuesday in Easton Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Longyhore) Fehr. They were married 46 years last September.

He was a truck driver for Chemical Lehman Truck Lines, Nazareth, for 24 years, retiring in 1985.

Born in Tatamy, he was a son of Freda (Getz) Fehr of Nazareth and the late Albert Fehr.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors: Wife and mother; sons, Dana J. and Barry W., both of Easton; daughters, Frieda F., wife of Anthony Anzalone, Denise D., wife of Robert Renner, Tina M. Hoagland and Tracey L., all of Easton, and Suzanne, wife of Thomas Mertz of Wilson;
Brother: , Stanley of Nazareth;
Sister: , Betty, wife of Charles V. Young of Forks Township; and 18 grandchildren.
