The crisis is considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war. It began when American spy planes discovered the missiles, leading to a U.S. naval blockade of Cuba and intense negotiations. The crisis ended when Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles in exchange for the U.S. promising not to invade Cuba and secretly agreeing to remove American missiles from Turkey.

Dana Jon Fehr
FEHR Dana Jon Fehr - Born October 31, 1950, in Easton, PA, and a resident of Mobile for the past twelve years, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011, after a brief illness. Dana was employed by Mercy Medical/ Catherine Place and was a member of Providence United Methodist Church in Spanish Fort. He loved music and was a true people person. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, he will be greatly missed. Dana was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Longyhore and Ralph Sem Fehr. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Cawthon Fehr; one son, Dana Jon (Lisa) Fehr; three daughters, Stephanie (Bill) Safranek, Sabrina Fehr and Kelly (Timothy) Ward; four sisters, Penny Anzalone, Sue (Thomas) Mertz, Denise Renner, and Tina (Mike) Larson; one brother, Barry (Sharon) Fehr; six grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Strunk Funeral Home in Easton, PA on Wednesday,
