Biography
PARÉ - from the old French 'paré' which designates 'the action of preparing, treading the cloth', a process which makes the weave tighter. This stage in the preparation of the cloth is the specialty of the fuller. Robert Paré was born around 1626 in St-Laurent-en-Solaure, Lyonnais (today: St-Laurent-Rochefort) (Loire), France. Son of Mathieu Paré and Marie Joannet, he married Françoise Lehoux, daughter of Jacques Lehoux and Marie Meilleur, on October 20, 1653, at the chapel of the savages on the Ile d'Orléans. Nine children were born from their union. He is a master carpenter. From 1655, he owned land in Ste-Anne-du-Petit-Cap and a wooden house in the Lower Town of Quebec. In 1681, he owned 4 guns, 14 cattle, and 30 acres of cultivated land. He died on November 17, 1684 in Sainte-Anne-du-Petit-Cap, and was buried there the next day.
