Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Marian Bader, left us unexpectedly on January 29, 2015 at the age of 73. Marian is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Ed, her children David and Nicole Granquist, 3 grandchildren Jackson Granquist, Stella and Spencer Bader, her daughter-in-law Sonja, son in-law Eric, brother Allan Lloyd, and many Minnesota relatives.

Marian was born in Winnebago Minnesota and grew up in the farming community of Martin County Minnesota. Marian received her RN nursing degree from Mounds Midway School of Nursing in 1962. In 1964 she and her best friend moved to San Francisco to continue their nursing careers. Marian's career spanned the next 40 years, and included nursing in Psychiatry, Med/ Surg., Nuclear Medicine, Allergy and Dermatology. She retired from nursing in 2003 and became very active in the Friends of Discovery Thrift Station in Danville, whose activities have raised millions of dollars to provide mental...Read MORE...
