Marriage to E. G. Schlomann Takes Place in St. Paul's Chapel, Columbia University

Miss Eleanor May Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Ethan Allen of Mulford place became the bride of Ernest August Schlomann son of Mr and Mrs Alfred Schlomann of New York City and Washington D. C. on Saturday.

The ceremony took place in St. Paul's Chapel at Columbia University and was performed by the Rev Stephan F. Bayne. A luncheon and reception followed at the Faculty Club, Columbia.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of French Chantilly lace over white satin and her tulle veil, appliqued with flowers, was attached to a cap with a trinity crown. She carried white
roses and gypsophila.

Miss Elizabeth Allen was her sister's only attendant and W. S. Walter of Philadelphia, served as best man for Mr. Schlomann.

The bride attended Adelphi Academy and Barnard College. Mr. Schlomann studied abroad and did post graduate work at New York University.

The couple will live in the Mayflower Apartments, Forest Hills.

Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

LOEB--Mady (Charlotte E. Loeb, nee Schlomann), was born in Munich, Germany in 1913. She immigrated to the USA in 1938 and started soon afterward The Handicraft Art Studio in Manhattan, handcrafted lamp shades and book bindings, a trade she learned in pre-World War Germany. She joined her late husband's firm, Marcel Loeb and Co. importers and exporters of steel, as financial officer until her retirement in 1982. She was a resident of Woodstock, New York and Manhattan. Devoted widow of the late Marcel Loeb, she is survived by the loving children, their spouses and children, of her late brother, Ernst A. Schlomann. Surviving nieces and nephews are Elizabeth Lowe McCoy, Margaret E. Jaret, Frederick Schlomann, Robert H. Schlomann and Alfred K. Schlomann. Services Tuesday 11:30am at The Riverside, 76th St. and Amsterdam Ave.
