Thanks to Joanne Diaz for the following information:

"The PRDH was unable to find the baptism record of Pierre Casaubon, but based on his death record (Dec 31, 1785 in Ste-Geneviève de Berthier, he is said to be 82 years and 10 mos, so his approximate date of birth is February 1703; born either in the Champlain or Sorel regions (based on the migration of the family).

According to the PRDH, the marriage contract, Notaire de LaFosse, dated Jan 19, 1737 states the following:
"Pierre CASAUBON, fils de Martin CASAUBON Capitaine, Major des Seigneuries de Berthier, d'Autray et Lanoraye, et Geneviève HORÉ, fille de feu Pierre HORÉ LAFERRIERE, Lieutenant de la Milice de Berthier, d'Autray et Lanoraye, et Étiennette DUBORD". His mother was not named, however is assumed to be Francoise LePele dit Desmarais.

Geneviève LaFerriere dit Houré was born Nov1, 1705 and died Feb17, 1792 in Berthier. Both Pierre and his wife, Geneviève were buried inside the new church in Ste-Geneviève de Berthier."

Did You Know? Québec Généalogie - What is a 'dit/dite' name?  When the first settlers came to Québec from France it was a custom to add a 'dit' nickname to the surname. The English translation of 'dit' is 'said'. The Colonists of Nouvelle France added 'dit' names as distinguishers. A settler might have wanted to differentiate their family from their siblings by taking a 'dit' name that described the locale to which they had relocated. The acquiring of a 'dit' name might also be the result of a casual adoption, whereby the person wanted to honor the family who had raised them. Another reason was also to distinguish themselves by taking as a 'dit' name the town or village in France from which they originated. This custom ended around 1900 when people began using only one name, either the 'dit' nickname or their original surname.
