ADAMS, Dec. 29 With Senator Theodore R. Plunkett absent, but Mrs, Plunkett in attendance, their son. Douglas Robinson Plunkett and Miss Paige Campbell Horn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter T. Horn of 5 Orchard Street, were married in a surprise ceremony last night at 8 o'clock, at the First Congregational parsonage. The Rev. Lton Giubaugh officiated.
Explains Absence
Explaining his absence from the wedding, the Senator, said that he did not think it was time for the young couple to be married. He was not notified of the ceremony until midnight the day before. But there is no serious rift in the family lute according to the Senator, who in extending his blessing, said that his home was always open that he expected his son and bride to visit with him and he intended to visit them.
To Reside in Shaw House The couple will reside in the Fred A. Shaw home on Crandall Street. There were no attendant's. The members of the family who attended with 2 guests were informed yesterday afternoon of the event that had been predicted for several weeks. The bride is a graduate of the North Adams State Teachers College. and taught at Adams High School until June, 1934, when she resigned. This fall she has been substituting at the Liberty Street School. The bride-groom prepared at Pomtret School and attended college at Amherst and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is now associated with the Srruth insurance agency in this town Mr. Plunkett is a member of one of north Berkshire's most prominent families He is a grandson of William D Plunkett, both benefactors of Adams, and a grandson of Arthur B. Daniels, president of k U Brown Paper Company.

William Brown Plunkett and Charles T Plunkett were brothers, sons of William C Plunkett and Lovisa Brown.
In 1830 their father bought the Adams South Village Cotton & Woolen Manufacturing Co., which business became known as W. C. Plunkett & Sons. As a leading industrialist of North Adams, Massachusetts, William Plunkett occupied many local public offices for most of his adult life.
His sons, born in the 1850s, they created and carried on the manufacturing interests of several textile mills in Adams. They also founded the Plunkett School and a hospital.

The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Paige Campbell (Horn) Plunkett, 81, of 68 Langlois Ave., a retired area educator, died on Tuesday in North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in Adams, she was graduated from Adams High School and the North Adams Normal School.
She taught primary and elementary grades in the Adams schools, and was also a special-needs teacher at the College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y.
She retired in 1980, and moved to this town.
She worshipped at the Adams Congregational Church, and belonged to the Adams High School, North Adams Normal School, and College of St. Rose Alumni Associations.
She leaves two sons, Douglas Robinson Plunkett Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., and Theodore French Plunkett, of Warner Robins, Ga., and three grandchildren.
