Biography
BOURG, ABRAHAM, deputy representing Upper Cobequid, Nova Scotia, 1720–26; b. at Port-Royal (Annapolis Royal, N.S.) 1662, son of Antoine Bourg and Antoinette Landry; married in 1683 Marie Brun, daughter of Vincent and Marie Breaux; date of death unknown.

Abraham Bourg was one of the deputies chosen by the Nova Scotia Council to represent the Acadian districts in 1720, under the governorship of Richard Philipps*. He was apparently released from his duties in 1726 at his own request, because of lameness and infirmity. On 16 Sept. 1727 he, Francis Richards, and the deputies Charles Landry and Guillaume Bourgeois refused to take the oath of allegiance to George II. Biography
Youngest son Abraham, born in c1662, married Marie-Sébastienne, another daughter of Vincent Brun, at Port-Royal in c1683. They had eight children, including five sons who married into the Guérin, Broussard, Landry, Boudrot, and Robichaud families. Their daughters married into the Broussard and Fougère families. In August 1714, soon after the British took over the colony, Abraham embarked with other Acadians on the French vessel La Marie Joseph bound for Île Royale, today's Cape Breton Island. Abraham evidently did not care for the island and returned to Annapolis Royal, but one of his younger sons, Charles, moved to Port-Toulouse, Île Royale, in the 1720s, married there, worked as a sailor, and by the early 1730s had taken his family to Île St.-Jean, where some of his cousins settled. Meanwhile, Abraham represented Port-Royal in the Nova Scotia Council. In September 1727, when he was age 65, he and three other council deputies, Charles Landry, Guillaume Bourgeois, and François...Read full story
