François MARTEL  was born 9 April 1737 in Verchères, Québec, Canada (Saint-François-Xavier-de-Vercheres).  François died 4 December 1794 in Verchères, Québec, Canada (Saint-François-Xavier-de-Vercheres).  François was the child of Nicolas-Raymond MARTEL and Angélique GUERTIN.

Marie-Josephte  married  (2) Jean SIGU dit LAVIGNE 3 February 1772 in Verchères, Province of Québec, Canada .  Jean SIGU dit LAVIGNE  was born abt. 1735 in France.  Jean died 15 February 1772 in Verchères, Québec, Canada (Saint-François-Xavier-de-Vercheres). 

Marie-Josephte  married  (3) Toussaint BEAUDREAU dit GRAVELINE 13 February 1797 in Verchères, Lower Canada .  Toussaint BEAUDREAU dit GRAVELINE  was born 29 October 1761 in Longue-Pointe, Montréal, Québec, Canada (Saint-François-d'Assise-de-la-Longue-Pointe).  Toussaint died 17 September 1844 in Saint-Damase, Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, Canada .  Toussaint was the child of Urbain BEAUDREAU (BAUDREAU) dit GRAVELINE and Marie-Judith DUFRESNE.

Marie-Josephte ROGNON dite LAROCHE died 31 January 1831 in Saint-Pie, Lower Canada.

Did You Know? Québec Généalogie - What is a 'dit/dite' name?  When the first settlers came to Québec from France it was a custom to add a 'dit' nickname to the surname. The English translation of 'dit' is 'said'. The Colonists of Nouvelle France added 'dit' names as distinguishers. A settler might have wanted to differentiate their family from their siblings by taking a 'dit' name that described the locale to which they had relocated. The acquiring of a 'dit' name might also be the result of a casual adoption, whereby the person wanted to honor the family who had raised them. Another reason was also to distinguish themselves by taking as a 'dit' name the town or village in France from which they originated. This custom ended around 1900 when people began using only one name, either the 'dit' nickname or their original surname.
