'Leonard, no less than the others, dreamed of New France. He talked it over with his pregnant wife and a decision was made in the spring of 1657: Leonard, with tears in his eyes, but hope in his heart, left his family, his town, the port, forever.
On 19 September 1657, we pick up his trail again, before notary Claude Auber on the Beaupre coast, signing as a witness to a contract of marriage between Ancestor Pierre Tremblay and Ozanne Achon. Evidently Leonard did not know that a last child had been born to him. It was son Jean who was baptized at La Rochelle.'
