Lotbinière, Québec
The municipality of Lotbinière is part of the Association of the most beautiful villages of Quebec. With less than a thousand Lotbiniériens and Lotbiniériens, it covers an area of more than 78 square kilometers along the St. Lawrence, in the administrative region of Chaudière-Appalaches.
The name of Lotbinière dates back to the era of New France, when Intendant Jean Talon granted, on November 6, 1672, a seigniory to René-Louis Chartier de Lotbinière.
The first settlers settled there around 1690. They cleared the land in the eastern part of the seigniory, near the place called Pointe-Platon, and in 1693, they erected a first church on the shore of the river.
