"Étienne Rivet or Rivest, born in c1652, came to Acadia by c1676, the year he married Marie-Jeanne, or Marie-Anne, daughter of Pierre Comeau, at Port-Royal. They settled on the Ste.-Famille side of the Pigiguit settlement at Minas, where Marie gave him five children, including a son who created a family of his own. One of their daughters married into the Boudrot family. In c1691, Étienne remarried to Catherine, whose surname has been lost to history, widow of Jean Labarre, but she gave him no more children. In c1694, Étienne married a third time, to Cécile, daughter of Francois Joseph dit Lejeune, probably at Pigiguit. She gave him three more children, including a son who created a family of his own. Their two daughters married into the Toussaint dit Lajeunesse and Poupart families. His older daughter settled in Canada. Étienne died at Pigiguit before 1707, in his mid-50s.

Older son Étienne, fils, by his first wife, born probably at Port-Royal in c1683, married Anne, daughter of Jacques Le Prince, probably at Pigiguit in c1708. They had eight children at Pigiguit, including three sons who married into the Landry, Benoit, Forest, and Bonnière families. Their three daughters married into the Landry and Forest families. Étienne, fils and his two older sons remained at Pigiguit, but his two younger sons moved to Île St.-Jean, today's Prince Edward Island, by the mid-1750s. "
