"This is a bronze plaque erected in honor and rememberance of William & Elizabeth Morris. It is located in the yard of Virginia's Chapel "The Little Brick Church" in Cedar Grove, Kanawha County West Virginia. It was placed there by the William Morris Chapter NSDAR in 1927. IN HONOR AND MEMORY OF WILLIAM MORRIS 1733 – 1792 FOUNDER AND DEFENDER OF FORT MORRIS THE FIRST FORT BUILT ON THE GREAT KANAWHA RIVER IN 1774 NEAR THIS SITE. HE ALSO BUILT THE FIRST CHURCH AND SCHOOL HOUSE AND MADE THE FIRST PERMANENT WHITE SETTLEMENT IN THE GREAT KANAWHA VALLEY AND OF HIS WIFE ELIZABETH STIPPS 1739-1793 THIS TABLET ERECTED BY THE WILLIAM MORRIS CHAPTER D.A.R.1927"
