Joseph  married  Madeleine TRUDEL 12 February 1776 in Saint-Cuthbert, Province of Québec, Canada .  Madeleine TRUDEL  was born 9 August 1754 in L'Ange-Gardien, Montmorency, Québec, Canada.  Madeleine died 22 February 1790 in Saint-Cuthbert, Québec, Canada.  Madeleine was the child of Joseph TRUDEL and Marie MAROIS.

Joseph  married  (2) Marie-Pelagie HERVIEUX dite LESPÉRANCE 13 September 1790 in Lanoraie, Province of Québec, Canada .  Marie-Pelagie HERVIEUX dite LESPÉRANCE  was born abt. 1762 in Québec Province, Canada (Quebec).  Marie-Pelagie died 11 May 1802 in Montréal, Québec, Canada (Sault-au-Récollet) (Côte-St-Michel) (Côte-St-Paul).  Marie-Pelagie was the child of Jean-Baptiste HERVIEUX and Marie-Madeleine MARION dite FONTAINE.

Joseph GAUTRON dit LAROCHELLE died 22 May 1801 in Saint-Cuthbert, Lower Canada.

Did You Know? Québec Généalogie - What is a 'dit/dite' name?  When the first settlers came to Québec from France it was a custom to add a 'dit' nickname to the surname. The English translation of 'dit' is 'said'. The Colonists of Nouvelle France added 'dit' names as distinguishers. A settler might have wanted to differentiate their family from their siblings by taking a 'dit' name that described the locale to which they had relocated. The acquiring of a 'dit' name might also be the result of a casual adoption, whereby the person wanted to honor the family who had raised them. Another reason was also to distinguish themselves by taking as a 'dit' name the town or village in France from which they originated. This custom ended around 1900 when people began using only one name, either the 'dit' nickname or their original surname.
