1765 - Église de Saint-Cuthbert established at Saint-Cuthbert
It was in 1766 that the locality received the name of Saint-Cuthbert, when Lord James Cuthbert, aide-de-camp to General Wolfe, who had acquired the land a few years earlier, donated it to the factory, to provided that his name is given to the new municipality.

The following year, a small wooden chapel was erected there and in 1879, the stone church was built on the initiative of Abbé Kerbério, parish priest of Berthier. The church still exists and was classified as a historic monument, along with the presbytery, in 1980.

1897 - C.N. Paquin, postmaster of St. Cuthbert, Berthier county, Quebec, is in trouble.
He is $21,00 behind in his payments. The matter has been reported by the post office department to the justice department. It was first discovered by Assistant Inspector Chillers of Three Rivers. He was in Montreal lately and found that money orders from St. Cuthbert were being presented for payment to one Paquin, Montreal, supposed to be a brother of Postmaster Paquin, for $2,000. Chillers stopped payment and then it was discovered that Postmaster Paquin had been carrying this amount since October last. He drew money orders every week for this amount which were cashed in Montreal, paying the order to the Department by making a fresh order at the close of the week. In this way, he managed to keep $2,000 ahead of the department. He has been postmaster since 1880. He is supposed to have used the money in his business.

She says: "At the age of twelve I was sent to a convent school in this parish. At that time I was as healthy as any girl of my age. At the end of a couple of years, however, I felt my strength leaving me. My appetite grew poor, and I suffered from severe headaches. I nevertheless continued my studies until October, 1901, when I became very ill and was forced to leave school. The headaches that had bothered me became almost constant. I suffered from pains in the back and stomach, and the least exertion would leave me almost breathless. A doctor was called in and he said I was suffering from anemia, and was in a very dangerous condition. He treated me until February,... Read MORE...
