Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Dudley - Loretta (Chauvin)LaMarre, 87, formerly of Joshua Place, died Friday, April 20 in UMASS Memorial Healthcare-University Campus, Worcester, MA. after an illness.

She was the wife of George LaMarre for 61 years.They were married June 16th 1945 in Webster.

She leaves one son: Paul L. LaMarre Sr. and his wife Kathleen of Thompson, CT, one daughter: Colleen Mayo and her husband Charles Sr. of Putnam, CT. 5 grandchildren Lisa Corrette of Dudley ,Ma. ,Charles and Christopher Mayo of Putnam, Ct. Paul LaMarre Jr. of Mansfield ,Texas and David LaMarre of Thompson. Loretta enjoyed her time with her 8 great grandchildren, Brady, Marissa, Samantha, Tyler,Zackery, Amanda, Megan and Sarah.

She was born in Webster, MA, the daughter of the late Ovila and Irene (LeBoeuf) Chauvin. She has lived in Dudley since 1945 . She worked as a stitcher in area shoe factories .
