Biography
BERTRAND – Comes from the Germanic name Berhthramn, of which the term “berht” means brilliant, or illustrious, and the term “hramn” means raven.

Guillaume Bertrand was baptized on October 30, 1642 in Ste-Marie-de-Ré, Charente-Maritime In France. Son of Pierre Bertrand and Jeanne Boutin, he married Marguerite Ferron, daughter Jean-François Ferron and Antoinette Desvilliers on October 12, 1671 in Quebec. From this union were born 8 children. Arrived in the country in 1665 aboard the ship 'Le Cat de Hollande' he worked as a servant for Mr. Denis-Joseph Ruette d'Auteuil. At the end of a 3-year contract with the shipowner Pierre Gaigneur, he obtained land in Neuville. In 1681, he owns 10 cattle and 10 acres of land in value. He was buried in Neuville on October 23, 1710.
