André was a Menuisier (Joiner).
The menuisier, or joiner, was an artisan who built things by joining pieces of wood, particularly lighter and more ornamental work than that done by a carpenter. He was primarily responsible for the manufacture of small works, as opposed to large works. The joiner made small wooden works, furniture and other objects intended for domestic use (doors, tables, cabinets, etc.). His main tools were the plane, the galley, the grooving/plow plane, the handsaw and the mallet.

"Elisabeth Charbonneau had Elisabeth Gobinet as her godmother on 11 July 1664. At the age of fifteen she met Andre Sire, a Poitevin who arrived in Canada in 1668 as a roof slater and day laborer. Their wedding took place at Saint-Francois, Ile de Jesus, at the end of 1679...Andre was one of the numerous victims who fell to the Iroquois attack of 1689. Elisabeth was then remarried to ancestor Joseph Barbeau dit Poitevin at Lachenaie on 12 June 1690..."

CYR - from 'sire', from the Latin 'senior' which means 'lord'. Ironic nickname given to someone who thinks he is a lord.
André Cyr-Sire was born around 1650 in Notre-Dame, Fontenay-le-Comte, Vendée in France. Son of Pierre and Jeanne Métayer, he married Elisabeth-Isabelle Charbonneau, daughter of Olivier and Marie-Marguerite Garnier, before December 18, 1679 in St-François, île Jésus. From this union were born 5 children. In 1668, he committed himself to Pierre Gaigneur for 3 years. In 1671, we find him in St-Ours, he is a slate roofer. He was granted land in 1680 and 1689, both on Île-Jésus. He was killed in Lachenaie by the Iroquois and was buried on August 22, 1689 in St-François, Île Jésus.
