POIRIER-LAJEUNESSE - Poirier comes from (Le) Poirier. Is said of one who comes from one of the localities of this name in France. Or, nickname from the fruit tree. Lajeunesse is the agglutination of 'youth', a soldier's nickname. Jean (Jehan) Poirier was born around 1626 in St-François du Poitou in France. He arrived in the country in 1641 aboard the ship 'St-François'. He is a fisherman. He married Jeanne Chebrat (20), daughter of Antoine Chebrat and Françoise Chaumoret in 1648 in Acadia. From their union 2 children were born. He died in 1652 at Port-Royal in Acadie (Nova Scotia). His widow remarried the same year with Antoine Gougeon.

As far as is known, the very first family founder to die in Acadia was the fisherman turned farmer Jean Poirier, who died probably at Port-Royal in c1654, age unknown.
