The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Died 11:35 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1993, at her son's residence in Baton Rouge. She was 84, a native of Plaquemine and longtime resident of Baton Rouge. Visiting was held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Visiting at the funeral home chapel, noon to 2:20 p.m. Friday. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 2:30 p.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. John Carville. Interment in Prairieville Community Cemetery, Prairieville. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Edna Mae and Larry Laughrey, Florissant, Colo.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Judge Carl A. Guidry and Barbara Louque Guidry and Lee P. and Tickie Hendry Guidry, all of Baton Rouge; 13 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
